Objectives (course unit)
This course deals with international issues in social work and global challenges and practices the student's use of English in professional communication.
Student
• deepens their conseptio of global and international issues in social work and is able to understand their local manifestations
• knows the principles and concepts of an anti-racist and culturally sensitive approach, discuss them critically and is able to apply them in their own work
• gains the ability to act as an expert in their own field in a diverse and international work commu-nity and operational environment
• understands English articles in their own field
• can write one’s thesis abstract
• manages demanding interaction situations such as conferences, meetings, and negotiations.

The student recognizes the premises and fields of global social work. Knows the principles of anti-racist and culturally sensitive work, but can´t really apply it to their own thinking or to the conseptualisation of social work practices. Can communicate in comprehensible English overall. Can write in comp-rehensible English overall. Shows some awareness of the norms for academic English and scientific writing.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
In addition to the above: The student is able to apply knowledge related to the intertwining of global and local challenges in their practical work in a versatile manner. The student is able to reflect on the challenges and solutions of diverse and international operating environments. Can communicate fairly clearly in interaction situations requiring academic English. Can write texts that meet the norms for academic English and scientific writing fairly accurately
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student has a clear and diverse understanding of the premises of global social work and is able to critically analyse the foundations of the work orientations discussed in the course. The student is able to analyse and utilise current international information for the development of social work and services and is capable of critical theoretical reflection. The application of knowledge and theory in practice is wide-ranging and analytical. Can communicate effortlessly in interaction situations requi-ring academic English. Can write texts that meet the norms for academic English and scientific writing successfully.
