Objectives (course unit)

The student
- Is fluent in use of English
- Is able to obtain information and read professional literature
- Has capasity of using the professional terms and increasing the general vocabulary
- Distinguishes the stylistic and cultural differences between spoken and written language
- knows how to outline the essentials of a text and how to write analytical and structured text.

Content (course unit)

- Professional sources of information.
- Professional texts, documents, tech riders, directions and instructions.
- Collecting professional vocabulary.
- CV.
- Editing.
- Oral communication situations, small talk, telephone conversation and negotiations.

Location and time

At Mediapolis/online on Tuesdays at 15:00 - 17:00 according to the schedule on Pakki.

Exam schedules

Final exam at the end of the course.

Assessment is based on a number of tasks completed by the students and the final exam.

There is an attendance policy of 80% i.e. you can be absent max. two times. Let the teacher know if you cannot make it to the class and ask your classmates aftrwards about the class. Homework is always published on Moodle. Absencies cannot be compensated with extra assignments.

The students
- are able to use English moderately both in professional and personal contexts.
- are able to obtain information only from a few sources and read basic professional literature.
- master only some professional terms and phrases.
- distinguish only some of the differences between spoken and written language as well as various cultures and have difficulties in adapting them.
- know how to outline the essentials of a text and how to write structured text.
- submit all required work.

Assessment criteria - good (3-4) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

The students
- are able to use English fairly well both in professional and personal contexts.
- are able to obtain information from a fairly good selection of sources and read advanced professional literature.
- master a fairly good selection of professional terms and phrases.
- distinguish and are able to adapt most differences between spoken and written language as well as various cultures.
- know how to outline the essentials of a text and how to write analytical and structured text.
- submit all required work by dead-lines.
