Objectives (course unit)

The student is able to evaluate and design different heating solutions and compare heating systems according to different starting needs. The student is able to design a conventional building-specific heat production system. The student recognizes the purpose of the building permit phase and the basis for its preparation. The student recognizes the different parties and operating principles of the energy market and is able to analyze the energy consumption of a building on the basis of various indicators and to prepare simulations of energy and conditions for a design site.

Content (course unit)

Different heating methods and their selection criteria. Value analysis of alternatives and presentation to the decision maker. Energy measurement laboratory exercise. Preparation of energy performance documentation for the building permit phase. Basic principles of energy production and distribution and environmental impact in Finland and neighboring areas.

Prerequisites (course unit)

Heating and Energy Technology (5T00BE07)

Further information (course unit)

The course is closely linked to the study complex in the HVAC House engineering premises and the study period is carried out with joint training assignments with other studies. Cross-sectoral cooperation with other technology disciplines.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student recognizes the key concepts that influence the choice of a heating system and the basics of dimensioning different heating systems. The student is able to describe the different parties in the energy market.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student recognizes the key concepts that influence the choice of a heating system and the basics of dimensioning different heating systems. The student is able to describe the different parties in the energy market.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student is able to describe a building's heating and energy supply as a whole and their connection to the building's use and conditions, and to make comparisons of energy supply.
