Objectives (course unit)

The student
masters the central skills in individual nursing care of patients in emergency and high dependency units
- is able to act safely and ethically
- demonstrates how to act as a nurse specialist in nursing care emergency and high dependency units
- utilises quality assessment methods in order to develop his/her own and the work community’s actions

Content (course unit)

Clinical training in Emergency unit or High dependency unit or wards with a High dependency unit

Prerequisites (course unit)

At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. Required courses are courses in anatomy and physiology, Nursing Care of Internal Medicine and Palliative Care and Surgical Nursing. and Surgical Nursing.
Participation in the course Nursing Care of Emergency and High Dependency Unit Patient.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Pass:
The student
- is able to utilise evidence-based knowledge in his/her work of caring for emergency and high dependency patients in different nursing environments
- knows the most common situations and illnesses leading to emergency and high dependency care
- is able to observe and support the patient's vital functions in emergency and high dependency situations
- acts in accordance with ethical principles
- acts professionally, for patient safety, in a family-oriented manner and in accordance with the principles of sustainable development
Fail
The student
- does not take responsibility for his/her own learning
- is unable to provide feedback on his/her own activities
- is not able to utilise evidence-based knowledge in his/her actions involving emergency and high dependency nursing care
- does not know the common situations and illnesses leading to emergency and high dependency care
- is not able to observe and support the patient's vital functions
- is not able to act in accordance with ethical principles
