Objectives (course unit)
The student knows
- to study the aspects related to the energy use of the built environment and the need for changes and to describe their effects on the solutions of the building services industry
- be able to apply for and apply widely applicable energy regulations and regulations related to construction and make suggestions and opinions as they develop
- open-minded search for energy efficiency methods in buildings and analytical assessment of their profitability
Content (course unit)
Change in the energy system, energy production and development of transmission systems in Finland and the EU.
Renewable energies and other evolving energy sources, such as heat pumps and hybrid systems.
Energy communities, power management, real estate intelligence.
Energy efficiency, potential for energy savings through structural and building services methods and calculation of profitability.
Effects of the requirement for carbon neutrality.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student is able to describe the basic features of the current situation and development prospects of energy systems. The student is able to name the most typical renewable energy sources and some evolving energy sources. The student shows an interest in developing the energy solutions of the future to be low-emission and economically viable.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student is able to comprehensively describe the current situation and alternative development prospects of energy systems. The student is able to name a variety of renewable energy sources and developing energy sources. The student demonstrates the ability to develop the energy solutions of the future to be low-emission and economically viable.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student is able to describe comprehensively and in depth the current situation of energy systems and is able to describe the alternative development prospects of the energy market. The student demonstrates that he or she knows the properties and possibilities of renewable energy sources and developing energy sources in many ways. The student demonstrates competence in the theoretical and practical ability to make extensive use of future energy solutions in a resource-efficient and economically viable manner. The student is able to describe the importance of building services and structures for low carbon.
