Advanced Clinical Nursing (4 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

The student
- has the key knowledge in the areas of advanced medical-surgical nursing and palliative care
- is able to utilise evidence-based knowledge as an advanced clinical nursing expert
- demonstrates mastery of the key knowledge from the point of view of continuity of care and rehabilitation in advanced clinical nursing and its various operating environments for medical-surgical nursing.
- is able to act in accordance with the ethical principles of nursing care

Content (course unit)

- defining the nursing needs, planning, implementing and assessment of the patient being taken care of in advanced clinical nursing
- supporting the survival of the patient and his/her family in medical-surgical or palliative care
- guidance to self-care for the patient and family and continuity of nursing care in medical-surgical nursing
- different areas of nursing, including neurological patient nursing, palliative nursing and nursing in breast surgery

Prerequisites (course unit)

Before starting the advanced studies of Medical –Surgical Nursing, the student must have completed 135 credits of studies including Anatomy and Physiology and all courses concerning Medical Nursing and Surgical Nursing, including all orientations to clinical trainings of those subjects.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student

- has mastered the basic theoretical knowledge of nursing and can identify evidence-based knowledge in advanced clinical nursing
- is able to identify and define key medical-surgical illnesses and related disorders of vital functions
- generally manages the essentials of rehabilitative nursing care and ensures the continuity of care in advanced clinical nursing
- is able to provide essential pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy for clinical nursing and can perform medication calculations
- identifies the changes in a patient’s condition in the most common medical-surgical illnesses
- is able to evaluate the patient's condition and to plan his / her nursing care
- manages various helping interventions and monitoring methods, but is not always able to explain the choices in his/her actions
- knows the significance of the illness in the life of the patient and his/her family and is able to support them in general in self-care when a health-related illness occurs
- takes responsibility for his/her own learning
- recognises the ethical principles of nursing care for a medical-surgical patient
- can identify his/her own interaction skills in an advanced clinical nursing environment
- recognises in his/her actions the factors influencing the continuity of care and understands the importance of rehabilitative nursing
- recognises guidance as an important part of advanced clinical nursing

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student

- understands the special characteristics of advanced clinical nursing and applies evidence-based knowledge in nursing care for these patients
- understands the causal relationships that occur in advanced clinical nursing and is able to interpret the patient's condition based on them
- is able to assess the needs of the patient and his / her family and knows how to support them
- understands the importance of the continuity of rehabilitative nursing and care in advanced clinical nursing and is able to guide the patient to self-care
- has mastered the pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy of advanced clinical nursing and can perform medical calculations
- identifies changes in the patient's conditions in an advanced clinical nursing environment and is able to observe and interpret the patient's symptoms
- is able to assess the need for the patient's care and to plan it comprehensively
- has mastered the key monitoring and intervention methods and is able to explain his/her activities
- is able to support the patient and his/her family in the self-care of illnesses that affect his/his health
- is able to cooperate responsibly and constructively and is ready to develop his/her interaction skills in nursing care
- understands and is able to apply the ethical principles of nursing which are needed in advanced clinical nursing
- understands the importance of guidance and encouragement of the patient in nursing care

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student
- understands and is able to extensively utilise the knowledge base of nursing care needed in advanced medical-surgical nursing
- analyses the evidence-based knowledge in advanced clinical nursing
- has mastered the pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy and can perform medication calculations in advanced clinical nursing
- is able to apply the advanced clinical nursing process, taking into account the individuality of the patient, rehabilitative nursing, continuity of care and his/her family
- is able to choose and use various monitoring and intervention methods in advanced clinical nursing, explaining his/her choice of activities
- is able to act responsibly, constructively and flexibly
- understands the ethical principles of nursing and applies these appropriately in an advanced clinical nursing environment
- is able to guide patients and their families, taking into account the needs of nursing care

Koko opintojakson kokonaisarvosanan korottaminen on mahdollista, kun kaikki osasuoritukset on hyväksytty. Korotuksesta sovitaan opintojakson vastuuopettajan kanssa hyvissä ajoin (Anne Partanen).

Osa 1 (KOE 1) numeraalinen arviointi (0-5).
Hyväksyttyyn arvosanaan vaaditaan vähintään 50% oikein. Lisäksi ehtona on, että vastaus ei saa sisältää sellaista toimintaa, joka aiheuttaa vaaran, haitan, vamman tai kuoleman potilaalle.

Osa 2 (KOE 2) numeraalinen arviointi (0-5). Hyväksyttyyn arvosanaan vaaditaan vähintään 50% oikein. Lisäksi ehtona on, että vastaus ei saa sisältää sellaista toimintaa, joka aiheuttaa vaaran, haitan, vamman tai kuoleman potilaalle.

Osa 5 Seminaari (seminaarityöskentely &tilanarviointipaja) arvioidaan hyväksytty/hylätty)
100% läsnäolo ja osallistuminen seminaarityöskentelyyn/tilanarviointipajaan), hyväksytysti suoritetut tehtävät.
Seminaarin /tilanarviointipajan korvaus tapahtuu seuraavalla toteutuksella.

Totetussuunnitelma voi päivittyä vielä ennen orientaatiota.

Etä- ja lähiopetus, verkko-opiskelu, itsenäinen työskentely, pienryhmätyöskentely, työpajatyöskentely,seminaarityöskentely ja asiantuntijavierailut.
Yhteinen moniammatillinen moodlekurssi ja diabetesseminaari lääketieteen opiskelijoiden kanssa.

Noudatamme pandemiatilanteessa kansallisia sekä TAMKin organisaation laatimia suosituksia, joten muutokset toteutustapoihin ja aikatauluihin voivat olla mahdollisia kulloisenkin tilanteen mukaan. Varmistathan tarvittaessa siis ajankohtaiset ohjeet muutostilanteissa!

Further information

Opintojakson orientaatiossa 17.1 on läsnäolovelvollisuus toteutukselle pääsemiseksi. Orientaatiosta poissaolijat opiskelijat poistetaan toteutukselta.
Läsnäolovelvollisiset tunnit ovat osoitettu erikseen lukujärjestyksessä (seminaarit, työpajat). Läsnäolovelvollisia tunteja ovat myös asiantuntijoiden vierailut sekä luennot.

2.5.2022 Läsnäolovelvollinen moniammatillisessa diabetesseminaarissa lääketieteen opiskelijoiden kanssa. Edeltävästi opiskelijat perehtyvät aiheeseen ja tekevät erillisellä moodlealustalla virtuaaliset potilastapaustehtävät. Tästä tulee lisätietoa tammi-maaliskuun aikana.
