Objectives (course unit)

After completing the first part of the practical training, you have achieved practical work life skills and you are able to work as a part of a work community.

Content (course unit)

You should participate practical training information sessions before you start your training period. During the practical training, you will work in your training place and keep a learning journal where you show your professional development. Please, read more detailed content and requirements for practical training in the Degree Programme's practical training instructions and in the Study Guide. You are also expected to be aware of the Degree Regulations concerning the practical training.

Assessment methods and criteria

The practical training is accepted and the credits registered after the training is done under the supervison at the training placement. The credits are calculated based on the reported and confirmed working hours. The student has to submit a report/diary on the training and has to do a presentation in a practical training seminar.

The practical training placement can be outside Finland or at a multinational company.

Further information

Finding a practical training placement is on your own responsibility. The first part of the training can be general training, where it is recommended that your duties are related to your field and they should be at least techical by nature. Before your practical training begins, you must enrol for the practical training implementation. You must take care also that you have filled your practical training contract before the training begins. The practical training can be completed also in shorter parts. The Degree Programme maintains a Tabula page for Practical Training Information that contains simplified instructions and relevant links to official instructions. Practical training is assessed pass/fail.

In order to get the credits, the student shows in the report and seminar presentation that has achieved practical work life skills and is able to work as a part of a work community in the field. He/she is familiar with common duties, techniques, occupational health and safety issues and different practices of the field.
