Objectives (course unit)

The student
- knows the basic ethical values in social and health care
- knows the professional ethical guidelines and principles of the future profession
- is aware of his/her own values and starting points, raises professional ethical perspectives and engages in professional ethical dialogue
- acts as required by data protection regulations and ethical guidelines and policies of the field
- deals with biological material in the manner required by law and acts with respect for the rights of the patient
- knows the principles of global sustainable development

Concepts and theoretical starting points of ethics
Different concepts of humankind, human rights, age ethics and equality
Situational ethics, client ethics and cultural ethics
Professional ethics and values in social and health care
Values and ethical principles of bioanalyst (Biomedical Laboratory Scientist)
Legislation in health care client work
Secrecy and confidentiality in social and health care
Data security in patient work and research
Legislation on biological sample material
Student’s own professionalism and value systems

The student is able to name concepts related to values and ethics. The student knows the ethical guidelines and operating principles of his or her professional field and profession.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student is able to describe practices and responsibilities related to values and ethics. The student is able to take into account the ethical guidelines and operating principles of his or her professional field and profession in his / her decisions and actions.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student is able to analyse and evaluate the ethical decision making and operating methods according to the individual needs of the client. The student is able to apply the ethical guidelines and operating principles of his or her professional field and profession in his / her decisions and actions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Opintojakso arvioidaan asteikolla 0-5. Verkossa ja luennoilla annettujen tehtävien hyväksytty suorittaminen. Yksilötentti, numeerinen arviointi. Uusinnat tenttiterraariossa erikseen kerrottuina aikoina (toukokuu 2020 ja kesä 2020).
Tentin painokerroin 2. Seminaarin painokerroin 1. Aktiivisella osallistumisella ja muilla tehtävillä puoltava vaikutus arvosanaan.
Pakollinen läsnäolo aloituskerralla sekä seminaareissa. Muista mahdollisista poissaoloista korvaava tehtävä omalle ryhmälle ja opettajalle sovitaan erikseeen.
