Objectives (course unit)
The student
- is able to recognise development needs in nursing and capable of finding solution models for them
- is able to choose and delimit a working-life-oriented thesis subject that supports his or her own learning
- is able to search independently for information concerninf the theoretical background of the thesis
- is able to make a relevant bachelor’s thesis plan and justify the choices and delimitations made according to the instructions
- is able to name main information sources in his/her field and systematically search for information on his/her topic
- is able to critically evaluate information and use it ethically in his/her thesis and in working life after his/her studies.

Analysis task
Analysis task will be evaluated (pass/fail)
Bachelor’s thesis plan will be evaluated (pass/fail)
The accepted BT-plan must have been (a) conducted under the supervision of the teacher and (b) presented in the appropriate seminars: topic selection seminar, idea seminar and planning seminar. Additionally, the student needs to participate in all the seminars of his/her group,
including acting as an opponent for his/her peers. When the BT-plan is completed, accepted by the supervising teacher and sent to the approval process (of the working life connection), the credits of independent work will be signed / approved.

The analysis task will be conducted by analyzing previously published BTs in nursing, midwifery, public health nursing or emergency care nursing, available in Theseus.
Guidance for the analysis task will be found in Tabula (in Finnish).
Student workload
1 credit (cr) orientation (27 h) includes contact teaching three (3) hours as well as executing the analysis task in groups, learning skills of data search four-five (4-5) hours, and independent studies 15-17 hours.
1 credit (cr) includes topic selection seminar (2 h), idea seminar (2 h), meeting with the working life (2 h), and planning seminars (4 -6 h).
2 credits (54 hrs) independent work (BT plan and meetings with the supervising teacher).

Accepted if …
The student
- has participated in the orientation class and satisfactorily conducted the analysis task
- has participated in the data search classes and has passed all the required tasks
- has used the supervised tutoring
- has participated in the seminars, presented his/her own plan in the seminars and acted as an opponent
- has finished the BT-plan which the supervising teacher has approved and which has been sent to the approval process to the working life.
Failed if …
The student
- has not participated in the orientation class
- has not conducted the analysis task
- has not participated in data search classes and has not done the required tasks
- has not participated in the seminars, or presented his/her own BT-plan.
- has not acted as an opponent
- has not had the BT-plan accepted.
