Objectives (course unit)

Basic Methods part I
Student is able to
- know the absorption phenomena, instrumentation, use and service
-know end-point methods; reaction principles and calculation of the results
- know the common principles of stainings and can do them accorning to instructions
- know the most common point of care test methods and can do test accorning to instructions

Analytical Techniques, part II
he student is able to
-use absorption photometer and do its check measurements
-know the reaction principles of the kinetics methods in absorption photometry, calculation of the results
-know the basic principles of fluorometry, turbidimetry, nefolometry, luminometry and reflectance photometry, instrumentation and applications
-know the basics of electrophoresis and applications
-know the basics of electrochemical analytical methods, potentiometry, ISE electrodes, oxygen electrode
-know the basics of flow cytometry, chromatography, mass spectrometry and applications
- explain how antibodies are produced and how monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies differ from each other
- explain the principles of clinically most important immunoanalytical methods and describe the factors that affect the quality
- perform simple analyses using immunoanalytical methods, explain their clinical signifigance, preanalytical requirements, test principles and assess the reliability of the results

Content (course unit)

Basic Methods part I

Absorption phenomena, instrumentation, use and service.
Dilution of the solutions and calculation
End-point methods; reaction principles and calculation of the results.
Basic staining methods (e.g MGG-, Gram-,Supravital- ,HE stainings)
The most common point of care tests ( Hb, Gluck etc.)

Analytical Techniques, part II

Check measurements of photometers
Kinetic measurements in absorption photometry
Fluorometry, turbidimetry, nefelometry, luminometry, reflectance photometry
Electrophoresis
Electrochemistry
Flow cytometry
Chromatography
Mass spectrometry
Immunoanalytical methods

Prerequisites (course unit)

Student must have passed 7B00CU94, Part I, before the Part II start .

Kurssikokeet, ajankohta ilmoitetaan myöhemmin.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Osa 1, Perusmenetelmät: kaksi välikoetta, joiden pisteet lasketaan yhteen. Läpipääsyraja 50 % kokonaispisteistä.
Osa 2, Analyysitekniikat: hyväksytysti suoritettu teoriakoe/kokeet (80 % arvosanasta) ja posteriesitys (20% arvosanasta).
Molemmat osiot: Ajoissa palautetut ja hyväksytysti suoritetut mahdolliset kirjalliset tehtävät. Osallistuminen laboratorioharjoituksiin, demonstraatioihin ja mahdollisiin tutustumiskäynteihin.
