Objectives (course unit)
After the course, students can
- implement the value creation approach and the different dimensions of sustainability in their work
- demonstrate inter-organizational dependencies related to sustainable work
- apply and communicate the business model canvas in their business activities
- involve a customer perspective in an innovation process
Content (course unit)
During the course, the students familiarize themselves with the value creation approach that combines social, environmental and holistic aspects together with economical value. Systems thinking and business modeling are discussed in connection to value creation. The students demonstrate means to involve customers/audiences in product or service development.

- Traditions and multidisciplinary dimensions of the value creation approach
- Systems thinking and sustainability
- Business modeling and the business model canvas as a tool for creative thinking and communication in business development
- Customers/audiences as active developers and producers of products and services
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student knows the value creation approach. S/he identifies the different dimensions of sustainability and describes how to promote sustainability in her/his work. The student recognizes inter-organizational dependencies in sustainable business modeling. The student describes means to involve customers/audiences in innovation processes of products or services. The student takes responsibility for her/his own work.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student applies the value creation approach in her/his work. S/he compares the different dimensions of sustainability and evaluates their impact on each other. The student structures inter-organizational dependencies in sustainable business modeling. The student creatively develop means to involve customers/audiences in innovation processes of products or services. The student committedly develops her/his knowledge and skills in emerging media.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student applies the value creation approach in her/his working field. S/he compares the different dimensions of sustainability, evaluates their interrelating impacts and provides alternative scenarios related to sustainable value creation. The student structures inter-organizational dependencies in sustainable business modeling by providing alternative solutions. The student creatively develop means to involve customers/audiences in innovation processes of products or services. The student demonstrates excellent and open-minded attitude to her/his work, as well as towards fellow students’ knowledge and skills.

Assessment methods and criteria
Tasks:
As part of the course, the students take the Sustainable Business Modelling module (NN00FK99-3002) of TAMK Hubs, 1 cr, and report their studies in the Sustainable Value Creation course. Assessment of the micromodule is passed/failed. The weight of the reflection is 20 %.

Further information
The course consists of lectures focussing on sustainable value creation and business modeling, and an analysis task focussing on consumer value creation. As part of the course, the students will study the "Sustainable business modeling" micromodule provided by HUB's that is TAMK's entrepreneurship center.
