Objectives

The student:

*Knows essential VFX post-production tasks and tools
*Knows how to use relevant tools in 2D and 3D productions
*Knows the VFX post-production workflow and knows how to work as a part of the post-production team
*Is able to create relevant artistic elements or artistic choices for the production
*Is able to keep the deadlines and receive and utilize feedback

Use of essential production tools and techniques (3D etc)

Working with Mattes
- Understanding alpha channels and transparency
- Masks and rotoscoping
- Chroma keys
Compositing computer graphics
- Node based compositing
- 2D compositing vs 3D compositing
- Stationary camera vs moving camera
- Nodal pans
- Creating and matching shadows
- Motion blur
- Set extensions
- Crowd replication
Tracking
- 2D-tracking
- Planar tracking
- 3D-tracking and match moves

Vfx temps for editing

- editing software tools ( vfx editor )
- footage via vfx pull process

Review sessions and approval
- workflow and tools
- vfx supervisor and director approvals
- colour grading, screen monitoring feedback

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student uses basic and beginner-level techniques and delivers basic-level production quality.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student uses advanced-level techniques and delivers good production quality. The student creates relevant artistic elements or artistic choices for the production. The student keeps the deadlines and utilizes feedback.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student uses a variety of advanced-level techniques and delivers high production-quality results. The student creates relevant, high-quality artistic elements or artistic choices for the production. The student shows excellent work ethics.
