Objectives
The student:
*Knows essential VFX pre-production tasks
*Knows how to implement concept art, design and animatics
*Knows how to implement VFX-pre-production tasks in the composition artist's role
*Is able to keep the deadlines and receive and utilize feedback
Content
- Script analysis for VFX design
- Practical effects vs visual effects analysis
- Cost analysis
- Concept art and design
- Storyboarding for VFX scenes
- Animatics (quick animation for testing the design)
- Previs: Previsualisation of scenes for producer, director and production departments
- Technical planning requirements regarding 1) camera technologies: lenses, focal length, shutter speed and type, aperture, sensors, camera movements, 2) lighting, 3) colour design.
- Communicating the design with a producer, director, respective HoDs
- Essential tools and sofware
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student shows basic pre-production skills and competencies. All tasks have been approved.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student shows good visual and creative skills with relevant techniques in pre-production. The student produces good quality presentation, which is clear and understandable. The student keeps the deadlines and utilizes feedback.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student shows excellent skills in pre-production with assignments, understands the narrative, and can justify the choices in the presentation.
