Objectives

After completing the course students have achieved the following skills realistic evaluation of one’s own language (English) learning skills, accessing information from a wide range of sources, critical evaluation of information and competence in scientific reporting.

Content

The students will practice producing reports which are logically structured, cover sufficient and relevant content, include appropriately labelled graphics, follow the norms for referencing and lay-out, and are written in clear and accurate English.

The students will develop their skills in summarising, paraphrasing and synthesise source materials.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Demonstrates basic understanding of qualitative and quantitative research principles. Can outline a simple experimental research study. Shows rudimentary knowledge of bachelor’s thesis procedure and requirements at TAMK. Able to give basic presentations and write simple scientific text about their work, with limited consideration of the audience level.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Shows good comprehension of the principles of scientific research, including research question formulation and hypothesis development. Capable of planning a well-structured experimental research study. Understands the bachelor’s thesis procedure at TAMK well. Gives clear and coherent presentations and writes competent scientific text, with good consideration of audience appropriateness.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Exhibits in-depth understanding and application of qualitative and quantitative research principles. Demonstrates exceptional ability in planning and articulating experimental research studies. Has thorough knowledge of the bachelor’s thesis procedure and exceeds requirements at TAMK. Delivers professional, engaging presentations and writes high-quality scientific texts, excellently tailored to the audience.
