Objectives

Students:
- know strength of materials basic concepts
- know the basic theory of strength of materials
- are able to analyze simple machine parts and structures in usual static load cases.

Content

Basic concepts of strength, stress, strain and shear strain. The stress-strain relation. A straight rod tension and compression. Clean cut strain. Torque. The geometric properties of the cross-section. Straight beam bending. Buckling. Hyperstatic structures.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Students recognize strength of materials basic concepts.
Students can solve routine tasks independently.
Students are able to give and receive feedback.
Students take responsibility of their studies.

Students are able to use strength of materials basic concepts and compare various results.
Students can solve demanding tasks independently.

Students widely understand strength of materials theory and can generalize and analyze problems.
