Diagnostics of Anaemias and Malignant Blood DiseasesLaajuus (3 cr)

Objectives

Student is able to
-know what anaemia stands for and general symptoms of anaemia
-explain developoment of the most common anaemias in Finland, basics of their pathophysiological classification and divide them morphologiacal classification
-explain the most important laboratory tests used in differential diagnostics of anaemias
-find and explain the most important anaemia-related findings in red cell morphology
-identify malaria plasmoid and its development phases in blood smear
-known what malignant blood diseases stand for, general symptoms and classification of them
-known what the most common malignant blood diseases stand for and their classification
-known the most important diagnostic and treatment related laboratory tests of malignant blood diseases
-discern abnormal findings in cell morphology and identify them and other pathological findings in different malignant blood diseases
-estimate the key factors affecting reliability of the haematological laboratory tests
-learn professional communication skills in meeting haematological patients

Most common anaemias in Finland ( and malarias and babesiosis)
Red cell morphology
Malignant blood diseases, other blood cell disorders and laboratory diagnostics
Microscopic identification of pathological blood cells
Factors affecting quality of haematological diagnostics
Haematological malignancy and meeting the patients

Prerequisites

The student must have passed 7B00BC23 Orientation to Haematology and Basic Tests before the course 7B00BC44. The student must have passed the course before 13SBIO-1016 Clinical Training in Clinical Haematology.
