Objectives

The student
- is able to use patient emergency transfer and care equipment in adherence to occupational safety guidelines
- is able to assess the care need for emergency patients and recognise any additional urgent needs for the patient
- is able to implement the care and document the record of emergency care, using the necessary communication tools

Content

- ergonomic and safe working practices in emergency care
- ambulance and emergency care equipment
- communication in emergency care (documentation, communication)
- assessment of the need for emergency care
- emergency care for respiratory distress and poisoning trauma as well as unconscious and elderly patients
- emergency care for a non-responsive patient
- ambulance day -- driving, familiarisation, etc.

Prerequisites

Participation in course on Basic Level Emergency Care.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass
The student
- is able to plan and implement an emergency patient’s nursing care safely
- works professionally and ethically

Fail
The student
- puts patient safety at risk
