Eligibility
To be eligible for applying to the Master's degree programme in Management and Economy in the International Forest Sector the applicant must have Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources (in the field of forestry) and at least three years of work experience in the field after completion of the Bachelor´s degree.
Background
Wood supply markets and forest machinery business, which have been traditionally considered as home market businesses, are becoming increasingly international activities. Enterprises working in these fields need internationally oriented forest engineers with good language and management skills as well as ability to organize large scale wood supply operations.
Aim of the program
The aim of the Master’s programme is to educate experts and managers with good language skills for the international forestry sector. The graduates will become specialists in international operations and have knowledge and skills to motivate and lead people in multicultural organizations and working environments. They will be able to analyze, interpret, and make decisions based on financial data in international forestry context. Their specialization will extend to skills and knowledge of managing international forestry operations, especially logistical operations of transboundary wood supplies.
Competences developed
After completing the studies the students will be able to communicate fluently in English language in professional context, work in a multi-cultural working environment, manage large-scale forestry operations, analyse financial reports and calculations and develop activies based on them. The students will also develop their leadership skills.
Professional status
After graduating the students will be able to apply for positions in forestry and related fields which demand good managing and language skills. The students will be able to apply for positions where a master´s degree is demanded.

Structure of the studies
The extent of the Master’s Programme is 60 credits. The length of the studies is 18 months or 1.5 years. The studies are divided into two parts: advanced professional studies (25 credits), free-choise studies (5 credits) and master´s thesis (30 credits). The advanced professional studies consist of 4 study units:
International Business Environment in Forest Sector (8 cr)
International Wood Supply Economics (9 cr)
Leadership and Financial Management in International Forest Sector (8 cr)

Curriculum development and working life cooperation

The basic structure of the curriculum has been developed on the basis of comments of people working in managerial level in the biggest Finnish forest enterprises. Also comments of forestry degree programme´s alumni have been taken into account. The detailed contents of the curriculum have been developed together with the representatives of St.Petersburg State Forest Technical University.

Further information

The studies will partly be implemented in co-operation with the Forest Technical University of St. Petersburg, Russia. There will be 4 intensive week for both Finnish and Russian students, first on February 9th – 12th in St.Petersburg, second on May 18th – 21st in Tampere, third on September 14th-17th in St Petersburg and fourth nn December 7th-9th in Tampere. In addition there will be separate contact days for Finnish students only. Mostly the studying will be organized as distance learning.
