Objectives (course unit)

Periodontology
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
• Explain the interrelations between general health and periodontitis.
• Evaluate a patient's suitability for procedures based on medical history.
• Understand periodontal microbiology.
• Comprehend the epidemiology of periodontitis and its risk factors, explaining their impacts.
• Be familiar with additional periodontal diagnostic methods such as microbial sampling.
• Explain the etiological factors and diagnosis of peri-implant diseases.
• Plan and implement complex periodontitis and peri-implant disease treatment as part of a team.
• Evaluate treatment outcomes and identify the need for consultation or referral for specialized treatment.
• Implement maintenance therapy as part of a team and determine individually suitable maintenance intervals.

Cariology
Upon completing the course, the student will:
• Be able to explain the causes and prevention and diagnosis of hard tissue damage to teeth (erosion, abrasion, attrition, abfraction)
• be able to develop a caries treatment plan according to their own area of responsibility
•be able to explain the chemical effects of aesthetic tooth whitening to clients and provide indications and contraindications for tooth whitening.

Content (course unit)

Periodontology
Content:
The interplay between general health and periodontitis, antibiotic prophylaxis
Advanced microbiology of periodontal diseases
Epidemiology and risk factors of periodontitis
Additional diagnostic methods used in periodontology such as microbial sampling
Peri-implant diseases
Planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment for periodontitis and peri-implantitis, as well as maintenance therapy as part of a team.

Cariology
Content:
Etiology and prevention of hard tissue damage
Theory of aesthetic tooth whitening (chemical reactions, indications for treatment, contraindications)

Student can:
• List the main impacts of general health on periodontitis.
• List the key considerations in patient history that affect suitability for treatment.
• List the most significant aspects of periodontal microbiology.
• Explain the main points of periodontitis epidemiology and enumerate the risk factors, as well as key aspects of their effects.
• Know the various additional periodontal investigative methods available.
• List the key aspects of the etiological factors of peri-implant diseases and explain the main points of diagnosis.
• Plan and implement advanced periodontitis and peri-implant disease treatment as part of a team.
• Evaluate treatment outcomes and identify the need for consultation or referral for specialized treatment.
• Implement maintenance therapy as part of a team and determine an individually suitable maintenance interval.

Student can:

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

Student can:
• Explain the effects of general health on periodontitis.
• Evaluate patient's suitability for treatment based on medical history.
• Understand periodontal microbiology.
• Understand the epidemiology of periodontitis and its risk factors, and explain their effects.
• Be familiar with additional periodontal investigative methods such as microbial sampling.
• Explain the etiological factors and diagnosis of peri-implant diseases.
• Plan and implement complex periodontitis and peri-implant disease treatment as part of a team.
• Evaluate treatment outcomes and identify the need for consultation or referral for specialized treatment.
