Objectives (course unit)

Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
• Explain the effects of pregnancy on oral health and apply this knowledge in oral health care work.
• Apply knowledge in promoting oral health for expecting families, children and adolescents.
• Understand the significance of multiculturalism and the influence of diverse cultural backgrounds in oral health care work.
• Explain the stages of dental development.
• Apply their knowledge of normal and abnormal occlusion when identifying the need for further referral.
• Apply their knowledge of dental trauma to choose appropriate actions and provide home care instructions.
• Explain the unique features of oral diseases in children and adolescents and apply this knowledge in oral health care work.
• Understand how common childhood illnesses, developmental disorders, and syndromes affect oral health.
• Understand the findings of oral health examinations for children and adolescents, and make timely decisions for consultation and referral to appropriate follow-up care.
• Know how to document oral health care and inform minors about entries made in patient records and in the personal health record system.
• Explain how to recognize child maltreatment in oral health care and act responsibly.
• Explain when solving children's and adolescents' oral health problems requires multidisciplinary collaboration.

Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
• Explain the main factors affecting the relationship between pregnancy and oral health and outline the key considerations in oral health care work.
• Define the aspects involved in promoting oral health for expecting families.
• Define some of the significance of multiculturalism and the influence of different cultural backgrounds on oral health care work.
• Describe the key aspects of dental development stages.
• Define when consultation should be sought or referral made for malocclusions.
• Know the first aid measures and home care instructions for the most common dental traumas.
• Explain the main characteristics of oral diseases in children and adolescents and how they should be addressed in oral health care work.
• Identify the most important aspects of common childhood illnesses, developmental disorders, and syndromes that must be considered in oral health care work.
• Know the content of an oral health examination and be able to list the changes that require follow-up care, consultation, or other further treatment.
• Understand how to document treatment and inform minors about entries made in patient records and in the personal health record system.
• Define the clearest signs of abuse in dental care and act responsibly.
• Define the clearest signs indicating the need for multidisciplinary collaboration in solving children's and adolescents' oral health problems.

• In promoting oral health for expecting families, not only achieve a good level but also justify information with research evidence and use evidence-based research.
• Understand comprehensively the significance of multiculturalism and the impact of various cultural backgrounds on oral health care work.
• Understand extensively the stages of dental development and the development of occlusion and malocclusion, and analyze the need for consultation and referral for further treatment.
• Apply their knowledge of dental trauma to choose appropriate actions and provide home care instructions.
• Explain extensively and justify the specific characteristics of oral diseases in children and adolescents, and apply this knowledge in oral health care work.
• Justify extensively how common childhood illnesses, developmental disorders, and syndromes affect oral health.
• Apply the knowledge gained from children's and adolescents' oral health examinations comprehensively, and be able to analyze the significance of the findings to make timely consultation decisions and guide appropriate follow-up care.
