Objective of course:
Students
-provide ethically high-quality care by reflecting their actions and decision-making continuously
-recognize their own attitudes towards mental health and substance abuse problems and prevent social exclusion in their own actions
-work as professionals in the field of mental health nursing using evidence-based and scientific knowledge as basis of their work
-recognize different kinds of mental health and substance abuse problems and their effects on the wellbeing and health of individuals, families and communities
-are able to use mental health and substance abuse nursing interventions according to the needs of patients and families of different ages
-manage therapeutic relationship skills with patients and families
-are able to encounter, give information, guidance and education to patients and families on mental health problems and their care
-know and recognize the meaning and possibilities of therapeutic groups and are able to direct therapeutic groups
-are able to use the therapeutic influence of community in patient and family care
-are familiar with medication on mental health and substance abuse problems, can support and educate patients and their families in the use of medication.
-know different therapeutic methods in mental health nursing
-are able to work as nursing professionals in multiprofessional communities, can establish and inform about nursing viewpoints in the care of patients and families.
-are familiar with the theoretical background of clinical supervision and can use clinical supervision to support professional identity and professional growth

Teaching methods:
Lectures, tutorials, orientation to clinical training, clinical training, independent learning, reflective diary, written tasks, supervision

Assessment methods:
exams, self-evaluation, peer review, written tasks and practical exam, feedback given by teacher and supervisoring nurse
