Students
-are able to apply earlier learned skills and knowledge in individual care of the elderly
- strengthen their professional identity and competence in geriatric nursing
- understand the ethical and theoretical basis of their actions and are able to make ethically sound decisions
- are able to act as primary nurses of elderly patients/clients in primary nursing
-can coordinate nursing practices in work communities and act in a responsible way in cooperation with other professionals
-acknowledge the meaning of evidence-based nursing and master quality assessment and development methods in nursing
Course contents:
- promotion of functioning ability and health of the elderly, prevention and treatment of diseases
- supporting the rehabilitation process of the elderly
- need assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing in the care of elderly patients/clients
-medical care of the elderly
-special issues in the care and nursing of the elderly
-rights of the patient/client, values, principles and norms guiding nursing practice in the care of the elderly, acting accordingly
-quality of care, research and development, evidence-based nursing
Teaching methods:
Lectures, tutorials, study groups, orientation to clinical training, study visits, independent learning, clinical training
Assessment methods:
Written exams, practical exams, self-evaluation, peer review,evaluation from the teacher and supervisor
