Objective of course:
Students
- work in an ethical manner reflecting their practice and decision-making processes
- have basic knowledge on the most common long-term illnesses and related nursing in different phases of the illness.
- master nursing of surgical patients in outpatient and institutional care.
- know the care and service chains of patients and clients with most common national diseases
- recognize substance abuse problems and their effects on the wellbeing and health of individuals, families and communities and are able to help patients suffering from substance abuse problems by means of nursing
- are able to encounter, give information, guide and educate individuals and families in the treatment of long-term illnesses and in substance abuse problems
- can coordinate nursing practice and are able to work independently and in a responsible manner with different professional groups
- recognize the importance of evidence-based nursing
- master evaluation and development methods in nursing

Course contents:
-nursing practice and special characteristics in the care of patients suffering from long-term illnesses
-supporting the coping of patients and their families with long-term health problems
-assisting methods of surgical nursing
-outpatient reception
-promotion of patients´ and their families´ rehabilitation and self-care in their individual life situation
-pharmacotherapy and special issues of pharmacotherapy of the elderly
-special issues in care of the elderly
-recognition of substance abuse and nursing practice with substance abuse problems
-multiprofessional cooperation
-evidence-based nursing
-research and development of nursing

Teaching methods:
Lectures, tutorials, independent learning, orientation to clinical training, study visits, virtual studies, clinical training

Assessment methods:
Exams, self-evaluation, peer review, feedback given by the teacher and supervisor
