The Master’s Degree Programme in Health Promotion is a higher education degree at EQF level 7.

EMPLOYMENT PLACEMENT OF GRADUATES

The education will provide the competence to work as an expert in health promotion and healthcare development in diverse social and healthcare workplaces.

International experience in education shows that experts in health promotion and health research find themselves in a wide variety of projects and situations which require competence and developmental expertise.

VALUEBASE OF EDUCATION

In pursuing a programme of Health Promotion, the student advances the critical and ethical reflection of his/her field.

The student establishes his/her activities on evidence-based knowledge and takes into account different viewpoints of his/her activities, such as sustainable development.

The student is able to work in his / her profession both independently and in multidisciplinary networking with different actors or as an independent entrepreneur, respecting the skills and knowledge of others.

The student appreciates his/her own continuous development and the activities of his/her own field, and follows the development of the area nationally and internationally.

THE STRUCTURE OF THE STUDIES

TAMK's Master's degree programs contain 30 ECTS of advanced professional studies in a substantive subject. These studies focus particularly on specific issues in health promotion. The degree program includes 30 ECTS of elective studies. Students choose these courses based on their interests and schedules, for example, from TAMK's common Master's courses. These elective courses are used to supplement expertise according to professional special needs.

IMPLEMENTATION OF TEACHING

The programme consists of contact or remote teaching (2-3 days / month) as well as remote and independent work.

Various methods of independent and participatory work are used in the education, such as small group work and e-learning. Each student, together with the teacher tutor, makes a personal learning plan.

During the education, networking is supported by diverse co-operation between studies, co-operation between different degrees, and joint teaching with the University of Tampere.

In addition, for genomic science, there is collaboration / cooperation with national and international networks of experts.Part of the studying may be conducted in English.

The student has the opportunity to choose courses of interest totaling up to 30 ECTS from a wide range of offerings, for example, in the areas of management, work development, and research skills.

ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL STUDIES 30 ECTS

At the beginning of the programme, the student chooses one of the following fields for advanced professional studies:

• Health Promotion or
• Occupational Health Care
Common advanced professional studies are studied for 20 credits, and from the above study programs, either Health Promotion or Occupational Health Care, 10 credits.

Objectives

The student
• is able to apply ethical principles guiding health promotion and evaluate their implementation in various specific situations in their field
• can act as an expert in methods, theories, and models of health promotion
• is capable of developing practices in health or wellness activities
• is able to lead a health promotion project in both domestic and international environments

Curriculum development and working life cooperation

The curricula are developed in cooperation with other degree programmes of Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TUAS). In addition, there is joint developmental work and implementation with other universities of applied sciences and national networks. This curriculum was approved at the TAMK University Council meeting on November 20, 2024.

During the studies, collaboration with working life organisations and actors is performed; the studies also involve a variety of national and international projects.
