Objectives

1. Bachelor of Social Services in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Rehabilitation
Students
- are able to analyse their individual and professional identity in substance abuse and mental health rehabilitation
- regard social and community rehabilitation as forms of substance abuse and mental health work
- can support and counsel clients according to their situation in life and rehabilitation needs
- know and understand serious mental health and substance use disorders
- can apply ethical principles of social services and identify situations requiring ethical consideration
- recognise their own attitudes when working with clients in mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation
2. Methods and Approaches to Work
Students
- understand the background and mechanisms of mental health and substance use disorders
- understand the effects and meaning of mental health and substance use disorders for individuals of different ages and their families
- can support and counsel clients according to their situation in life and rehabilitation needs
- regard social and community rehabilitation as forms of substance abuse and mental health work
- are able to justify the use of different approaches to work (preventive work, early intervention, rehabilitative social work, community work, structural social work) and can apply and assess them in practice
-can apply different individual and group counselling methods
- are able to work as members of multi-professional networks
3. Phenomena and Special Issues in Substance Abuse and Mental Health Rehabilitation

Students
- can describe phenomena and special issues related to substance abuse and mental health rehabilitation
- can analyse the significance of phenomena and special issues in client relationships, everyday life and, own work
- are familiar with substitution treatment and other medical substance abuse and mental health rehabilitation
- are able to use work supervision and peer support as part of own work
- search for current studies on the effectiveness of substance abuse and mental health work and different work methods
4. Advanced Knowledge of Legislation, Service System and Client Process
Students
- are familiar with essential legislation and service system concerning substances and mental health
- can apply them in a client-centred way enabling client participation
- can acquire information on substance abuse and mental health services for the rehabilitation and case management of a client
-can evaluate and describe different stages of rehabilitation process

- Risks and harms of substance use and mental health disorders among people of different ages
- Laws, statutes, and guidelines governing substance abuse and mental health work and services
- Forms of substance abuse and mental health rehabilitation
- Service system and the gradation of treatment and rehabilitation
- Management of rehabilitation and client process
- Peer support and work supervision
- Multi-disciplinary and multi-professional cooperation, experience by expertise, and networki
