Objectives
Goals:
The students
- familiarise themselves with the basic research methods of clinical haematology and theory
- are able to make a smear preparation, stain it with May-Grünvald-Giemsa and to recognise normal blood cells
- are able to produce a reticulocyte preparation and and count microscopically reticulocytes
- are able to make the B-La definiton, define blood count using the automatic cell calculators Sysmex KS-21 and Sysmex XS 1000i
- are able to evaluate what factors contribute to the reliability of laboratory results in various stages of the work
- know how blood cells are born and how that process can be examined
- know the role of the bioanalysist in taking bone marrow samples, preparations and handling
Content
Lectures: hemopoesis in different age groups, taking bone morrow samples and making preparations, making a blood smear and B-Retik preparation and staining. B-La examination. DIA seminar on the morphology of blood cells.
Clinical training in the teaching laboratory: making a smear and B- MGG -Vr, B-Retik, B- La, B- Hb, B- HKR, PVK Sysmex KX 21® and Sysmex XS1000i- cell automations. MGG stained blood cells under a microscope.
Written assignment: the students write an assignment as individual or pair work (more details given during the first lecture).
