Objectives

The student can:
• knows the most common field and actuators of process automation and their operating principle
• knows the basics of dimensioning pumps and valves
• choose the most common field and measuring devices that meet the requirements of the process
• interpret and draw the most common automation design documents
• use design software to create documents
• uses and knows the most commonly used cables in the process industry
• ways to connect field devices to the automation system.

Content

Basics of selection and dimensioning of process industry actuators and field devices. Operation and selection of measuring devices. Interpretation and drawing of automation design documents with design software. Cables used by the process industry.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student understands the principle of how actuators are sized for the process. In addition, he can, with assistance, choose suitable field and measuring devices for the process. He is able to helpfully interpret automation design documents. He also understands how field devices are connected to the automation system.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student knows and understands the issues in the previous section at a good level. In addition, he can apply what he has learned to some extent in practice.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the above, the student demonstrates commendable knowledge of the course's issues and knows how to apply them in practice.
