Degree Programme in Vehicle Technology: Garage Engineering
Code: 24AUTO
Description
KNOWLEDGE PRODUCED BY EDUCATION
Tampere University of Applied Sciences' degree program in automotive technology offers expertise to those who want to build a modern and environmentally aware engineering career in the automotive and mobile machine industry. The studies include plenty of practical training and projects that help apply theory to practice. For example, the internationally acclaimed Formula Student project offers a unique opportunity to develop skills and compete with other student teams in global competitions.
PLACEMENT OF THE GRADUATES IN THE WORKING LIFE
In the degree program, you can specialize in Industrial Vehicle Engineering, Garage Engineering or Intelligent Machine Engineering, which gives you the freedom to choose your own path in the diverse world of the automotive and machine industry. After graduation, there is a wide range of job opportunities, such as design, manufacture, sales or maintenance of vehicles and mobile machinery. Our program also provides an in-depth understanding of vehicle digital technology, which is a key part of the industry's future. The teaching utilizes the latest automotive and workshop technology software so that you graduate ready to challenge yourself and succeed in an industry that is constantly evolving.
THE VALUE BASIS OF EDUCATION
The teaching emphasizes environmentally friendly aspects, such as the use of sustainable materials, the assessment of the environmental impact of inspections and the recycling of components.
IMPLEMENTATION OF TEACHING
Teaching is carried out in a practical way, using modern learning environments. In addition to lecture-style teaching, working life-oriented projects and practical laboratory exercises are carried out. An important part is also the internships usually done in the summer at workplaces.
KNOWLEDGE PRODUCED BY EDUCATION IN DIFFERENT YEARS OF STUDIES
In the first two years, the basic technical skills of mathematics, physics and languages are studied. In addition, the studies include, for example, 3D modeling, statics and strength theory.
In the third year, studies are oriented towards professional studies, depending on the orientation choices.
Industrial Vehicle Engineering:
The aim of the orientation studies in work machine technology is to prepare specialists for vehicle and work machine engineering design tasks and after-sales. Special emphasis is placed on mastering modern methods of machine design, such as computer-aided design (CAD) and strength calculation (FEM). Teaching is designed to support industrial product development using the latest tools and methods.
Garage Engineering:
The main objective of automotive and workshop engineering directional studies is to prepare professionals for the after-sales, workshop and spare parts business of vehicles. In particular, the focus is on teaching skills related to workshop management, supervision, customer service, sales, quality and business skills. The studies also include a practical on-the-job learning period, which is carried out in companies and provides a solid preparation for challenging practical tasks.
Intelligent Machines:
The orientation prepares you to work in engineering positions in your professional field, such as design, development, operation, project and management positions in a diverse range of industries, design offices, service companies and technical trade. In orientation studies, special emphasis is placed on project work, which requires initiative, good cooperation skills, problem solving ability, pressure tolerance, readiness for change, flexibility and a sense of responsibility. In addition, students should learn to understand the complex interactions between machines and electricity
Curriculum development and working life cooperation
The program is evaluated and developed together with an advisory group consisting of automotive industry executives. The advisory group includes one or two students chosen by the student union. The program is based on employer survey which was used to determine right skill areas.
