Objectives

Having completed work on this module, students will have a basic knowledge of the target language. In particular, students will
- be able to interact with customers in the target language.
- have a positive attitude towards native speakers of the target language, and know how to communicate with them in a culturally appropriate manner.
- be able to build on the skills acquired in this module, so as to develop further their skills in the target language.

Aqcuired level of competence: A1-B1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

Content

The basic level language study modules provide students with natural and realistic communicative practice in work-related situations. The situations will vary according to the special characteristics of the target language. The principal topics and functions include e.g.:
- describing one?s educational background, work experience
- giving information about one?s company
- communicating with customers

Prerequisites

This module is aimed at students who have completed a polytechnic Elementary course in target language (5 credits, marked with course code N-KV585xx), or who have studied the target language for three years. This corresponds approximately to the standard reached in a ?short language course?, or level B3, in a Finnish high school.

Literature: Study materials will be distributed during the course.

Teaching methods: The practice activities are based on interpersonal interaction, and promote the development of communicative competence face-to-face and in writing. Audio-visual on-line learning tools may also be used.

Language of tuition: Finnish.

Year: Business Administration in Finnish: 2nd year of studies; International Business: 1st year of studies; Other degree programmes: no restrictions.
