The students absorb the important rules and practices of the working life, such as agreeing on a contract, working within a group and scheduling. The students are able to observe and critically examine the working culture and conventions of working life.

Content

The practical training takes place between the 2nd and the 4th year of studies. The length of a single practical training period depends on the students’ field of specialisation. For example, practical training for cinematographers is project oriented by nature and takes place in shorter segments, whereas the practical training periods for production tasks are often longer. How demanding the practical training is depends on the students’ previous skills. If they have no previous work experience, the first practical placement may focus on observing and learning the practices of the working life. As the students progress in their studies and gain more work experience, the aim of the practical training is to work in tasks which correspond to the students’ own skills. The students prepare for practical training by listing goals for the training period and by creating an application campaign in order to get the practical training job. The teacher tutor is in charge of training and together with them, the students plan the timing and goals of the practical training, as well as prepare the contract for practical training. During the training the students keep a journal, make observation exercises and collect other documentation. In the end of the training the students write a report of their training which is attached to the portfolio.
