Objective of course:
Students
-are able to monitor adults´ body temperature, respiratory and vascular system and are able to apply related nursing practices
-are able to observe patients' pain and know different pain relief methods
-are able to observe patients' level of consciousness
-are familiar with the meaning of lifestyle in emergence and prevention of cardiovascular diseases
-know the dimensions of the concepts of health and illness
-can support patients' individuality and integrity from the viewpoint of holistic health and see sexual health as part of it
-know the regulations of pharmacological management
-know the nurse's responsibility for the patient's pharmacological management and know the tasks of nurses related to the pharmacotherapy of patients
-know the most common clinical tests
-know the health care service system

Course contents:
-health care service system
-nursing practices
-connection between nutrition and health and wellbeing
-patient education towards healthy lifestyle
-monitoring of patients´ vital functions and nursing actions to support breathing, blood circulation and body temperature
-basics of pharmacotherapy and medical calculation
-the most important clinical haematology and microbiology tests
-human wellbeing, health and illness concepts and definition of health

Teaching methods:
Lectures, tutorials, clinical training, seminar, study visits, assignments, interview and small group exercises, supervised independent learning

Assessment methods:
Examinations, assignments, clinical skills tests, self-evaluation, peer review, feedback given by teacher

Prerequisites:
Participation in the course on orientation to nursing profession
