Objective of course:
Students
-know the main concepts of nursing science
-understand the meaning of mental health as part of health and wellbeing
-recognise their own relation to mental health and the attitudes and values guiding their work
-know the principles of patient and group education and can use different kinds of education methods
-know the main principles of nursing of patients suffering from dependence problems
-know the social and health care service systems for people suffering from mental health problems and substance abuse
-know the main principles of professional actions in threatening situations
-have basic knowledge about crisis interventions and mental first aid

-ethics and values in professional practice
-mental health as part of health and wellbeing and promotion of mental health
-patient education
-primary nursing
-family nursing
-basics of nursing patient groups
-nursing of people with dependence and substance abuse problems
-mental health and substance abuse service system
-professional practice in threatening situations
-basics of crisis interventions and mental first aid

Teaching methods:
Lectures, tutorials, clinical training, seminar, assignments, interview and small group exercises

Assessment methods:
Examinations, assignments, professional skills tests, self-evaluation, peer review, assessment given by teacher

Prerequisites:
Participation in the course on orientation to nursing profession
