Objectives

The students know the paper manufacturing process and its effects on the quality and costs of the paper as well as the environment. The course strengthens the students’ professional development.

Content

Pulp: dispersion, defibration and beating. Short and long cycle. Handling the broke. Headbox and wire, press nip, drying, surface sizing, calendering, reeler and their solutions: equipment and processes, and how they affect the quality, costs and the environment. Slitting and sheeting and the equipment used. Paper packing materials and lines.

Prerequisites

PTK-700 Paperitekniikan perusteet, PTK-402 Sovellettu kemia, PTK-P10 Puukuidut ja sellun valmistus, PTK-P11 Mekaanisten massojen valmistus, PTK-P20 Paperi- ja kartonkituotteet or similar studies
