Objectives
The students gain an understanding on construction business and the demands placed on its different parties. The students recognise building service solutions and the main parts of building service engineering systems. The students realise how a built environment affects energy consumption. They recognise environmental aspects of building service technology and possible problem areas and are able to find out the related legislation and the practices of environmental administration and administration systems, both domestically and internationally. The students know how the different fields in building services engineering operate. The students are able to select their specialisation options.
Content
Building in Finland, different parties in building, qualifications required. The general descriptions and the main characteristics, history and operating principles of all building service technologies. Familiarisation with the work of a building services engineer. Waste and hazardous waste, emissions and ways to reduce emissions, environmental protection legislation. Basic concepts of industrial ecology and sustainable development, environmental laws related to building services engineering and their effect on practices. Principles and practices of environmental administration, especially in the working life, international environmental agreements and the significance of environmental ethics for local authorities, companies and private citizens.
