Code: 12I111
- Degree title
- Bachelor of Engineering
- Credits
- 240 ects
- Duration
- 4 years (240 cr)
- Start semester
- Autumn 2011
Description
Product development engineers design and develop both current and new products. Important aspects of product development are also the productization of ideas, testing and defining costs. Customer-oriented and production-friendly product development covers the whole life-cycle of a product starting from ideating the product and ending with the recycling and destroying the product.
The specialisation option of product development aims to give the students the abilities needed to work in the modern mechanical engineering design and development tasks. The students know the theoretical basis for product design and have a comprehensive overview on the different stages of product development. The students study in depth the use of computer aided design methods as tools for product development. A future product developer must also understand the significance of environmental friendly design, mechanical safety, product structure, product description, usability and design in order to produce both competitive and at the same time safe product for the markets.
