Objectives
The students create an artistic portfolio about their artistic work. They learn about the position of an artist in society and also learn professional practices relating to artists’ work. The students develop their spoken and written Finnish and gain the skills to write essays. They learn to search for information from different sources and to write about art and their own works.
Content
The course consists of two parts: portfolio and practices. The students create a portfolio, which introduces their works by using images and texts and learn about marketing strategies. The students learn to use photographs to document works of art, basics of graphic design, to write a short text about their own artistic work (artist’s statement), introductory texts for the art works, work plan, artists’ resume (CV) and a media bulletin. The portfolio is presented at the feedback seminar. Members of artist’s union and artistic organisations visit the course, the students learn about copyrights, artistic residences, art funding and artist’s taxation and social security.
