Recognition of Prior Learning

Credit transfer for studies means that the student can transfer prior higher education studies to the studied degree if they meet the competence objectives of the degree programme. Any studies completed in other higher education institutions can be included in the elective studies. Students of Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) may propose credit transfer based on their prior studies and competence.
Credit transfer follows the spesific instructions of TAMK.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

TAMK’s higher education council decides on student admission criteria. Student admission is implemented by means of the joint or separate application. TAMK provides health care and social services applicants with information on health and functional ability requirements. Persons who do not have the health or functional ability needed for study-related practical duties or clinical or practical training cannot be admitted. Admission may also be prohibited by a prior study place cancellation decision if required by protection of other people’s health or safety. TAMK applies case-specific consideration in determining the relevance of the prior cancellation decision for the field.

Profile of the Programme

The extent of the studies is 90 credits. TAMK's higher university of applied sciences degrees include 30 credits of in-depth professional studies on a substantive subject. These focus in particular on the key issues of entrepreneurship and management and customer-oriented development in the social and health sector. The degree program includes 30 ECTS credits of elective studies, chosen based on the student’s interests and schedule, for example, from TAMK’s common master’s studies. Optional advanced studies and elective studies complement expertise according to professional special needs.

Advanced professional studies 30 ECTS
Elective studies 30 ECTS
Master’s thesis 30 ETCS
Total 90 ETCS

Key Learning Outcomes

The focus area of the education is evidence-based entrepreneurship management and development skills.

The training provides the skills for demanding entrepreneurial management, development and expert tasks in social and health care, where independent and critical thinking, management of change processes and innovative strategic development, identification and solving of complex challenges and effective management of operations are emphasized. Through the studies, theoretically extensive knowledge of the social and health sector and the readiness to acquire researched knowledge as a basis for entrepreneurship and for its critical evaluation and development are achieved.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The degree in entrepreneurship in the social and health sector is a work life-oriented higher education degree, and it is comparable to similar degrees in EU countries (EQF, level 7). Extensive management and development skills in entrepreneurship enable the student to move nationally and internationally. After graduation, the student knows how to develop entrepreneurship in the social and health sector based on evidence. The education provides the skills to work as an expert in the social and health sector and also on public positions for which a master-level degree is a requirement.

Access to Further Studies

After completing the degree, the student can apply for the teacher’s pedagogical studies either in a university or university of applied sciences and become a qualified teacher. Eligibility for licentiate’s and doctor’s degrees has to be negotiated separately with each faculty.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment of completed courses is based on TAMK’s assessment criteria. The teaching and assessment methods are agreed on with the students at the beginning of the course. The detailed information and criteria can be found in the course implementation plan. TAMK’s degree regulations are followed in implementation and assessment.

Graduation Requirements

The studies need to be completed and competence objectives achieved in accordance with the curriculum in order to graduate.

Mode of Study

The degree programme consists of contact teaching days (2-4 days/month) as well as distance learning and independent work. Various independent and participatory work methods, such as teamwork and web-based learning, are used. Every student makes an individual study plan together with the teacher tutor. The studies can be completed in 1.5-2 years alongside work. The mode of implementation of teaching is multi-modal.

Development of the Programme

The curriculum has been developed in cooperation with TAMK’s other master’s degree programmes. Working life cooperation is implemented through working life projects, thesis ideas and projects, as well as regular network cooperation, and advisory councils. Student feedback is collected annually in connection with courses and individual study plan discussions. Alumni feedback is collected regularly through online surveys.
