Objectives

The students are able to define and agree on indoor air goals for residential and office buildings, based on recognised condition needs and using various criteria, in collaboration with the authorities. They recognise the basics of air conditioning systems in residental buildings, regarding planning, implementation and usage. The students know common duct dimensioning methods and the significance of initial adjustment. They know the basic principles of air distribution and are able to apply them when placing and selecting air distribution equipment. The students know the basics of supply air flow theory. They are able to compare air conditioning systems and to select the most suitable system for each purpose. The students are able to select the most suitable (audio and flow engineering) components for an air conditioning system, based on calculations.

Content

Thermodynamics and basic processes of air conditioning in Mollier ix-diagram. Needs analysis for ventilation. Air conditioning systems and their histories of residential and office buildings, conditions for design, technical and economical comparison and selection, common dimensioning methods and basic adjustments of duct systems, calculating the need for cooling in air conditioning, most important principles of air distribution, basics of the flow theory for supply and exhaust air flow, air distribution equipment and their selection, basics to control noise in air conditioning, applying building regulations.
