Description
COMPETENCIES PRODUCED BY THE DEGREE PROGRAM
Electrical and automation technology are wide-ranging high-tech fields that combine expertise from several different fields. In electric power technology, energy supply and electrical energy, control and regulation systems for industry and real estate form the industry's key operating areas. Today, automation technology is used everywhere in industry, electricity distribution, construction technology and many other areas. Today, automation seamlessly combines control technology, measurement technology, information technology, computer and software technology, and electrical technology.
The studies of the multimodal implementation of the degree program in electrical and automation technology produce strong expertise in electrical and automation systems in industry and the energy sector. In the field of electricity and automation, you also need extensive mathematical and natural science skills and a strong command of information and software technology. Many tasks in both the electrical and automation fields are related to international projects. Good language skills, communication skills, project expertise and flexibility are required from those working in the field.
PLACEMENT IN THE WORKING LIFE OF GRADUATING ENGINEERS
The degree program in electrical and automation technology trains future engineers for positions in the fields of electric power technology and automation technology. The training provides the skills to work in a wide range of technically demanding expert positions in the electric power and automation industry and creates a broad theoretical basis that enables the development of specialized skills in the field in work assignments and postgraduate studies. Engineers who have graduated from the electrical and automation engineering degree program work in design, development, operation, maintenance, marketing and management positions. The field provides employment in industry, engineering offices, companies in the service sector and technical trade, energy and communication sector institutions, both for the domestic market and for international assignments. The education also provides good preparation for entrepreneurship.
THE VALUE BASIS OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM
The graduating engineer knows the responsibility related to the electrical or automation industry and the importance of sustainable development in their field. He is required to have good mathematical and natural science skills, mastery of the theoretical basis of electrical and automation technology, and the ability to use mathematical models describing practical systems. Many work tasks in the field require the ability to process, analyze and present information in its various forms. The fields make extensive use of modern IT applications. The needs of a changing working life are the central starting point for the contents of the education.
IMPLEMENTATION OF TEACHING
The teaching uses versatile and modern learning and modeling environments to support traditional methods. The teaching includes real, working life-oriented dimensioning and planning tasks. The development and deepening of competence is supported by combining theory in a versatile way with practice, both in laboratory work and in work-life training. In the multi-format implementation, the weekly short courses serve as the core of the teaching, which are supported by versatile online teaching methods. It is possible to complete some of the studies as project studies based on working life, if your work tasks are compatible with the goals of the degree program. The maximum scope of project courses is 30 credits.
Objectives
COMPETENCE GOALS OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM
During the first and second year, a broad foundation for engineering studies is created. In the third and fourth year of studies, knowledge in the field of electricity and automation is deepened in accordance with the goals of the study program. The studies are focused on both automation technology and electric power technology. Key areas of expertise in electrical power engineering studies are: electric energy systems, electricity use technology, electrical design of industry and buildings, and the technologies that support these. Automation, control and monitoring systems play a central role in automation technology studies. The degree includes the educational requirements for managing electrical work (electrical qualification S1).
ANNUAL GOALS:
AFTER THE FIRST STUDENT YEAR, the student is able to work as an intern in simple electrical and automation technology tasks at a company in the field. The studies focus on developing study skills and basic knowledge of mathematics, science, and electrical and automation technology.
AFTER THE SECOND STUDENT YEAR, the student's knowledge and skills to work as an intern in an electrical and automation company develop. He has the basic skills of engineering and he also masters the professional basics of electricity and automation.
AFTER THE THIRD STUDENT YEAR, the student can work in an electrical and automation company as a trainee in the duties of an engineer. He has basic knowledge of his professional field.
AFTER THE FOURTH STUDENT YEAR, the student can work in an electrical and automation company as an engineer. He has received the skills to develop into a professional in his field.
CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND WORK-LIFE COOPERATION
The curriculum of the degree program is evaluated and developed together with the working life of the field. A central role is played by an advisory board with representatives from companies in the field and a student representative chosen by the student association.
