Profile of the Programme
The degree is a professionally oriented bachelor-level higher education degree. It corresponds to the criteria set for universities of applied sciences in the Finnish national qualification framework and aligns with the European qualifications framework for degrees and other competencies.
Key Learning Outcomes
In the HVAC engineering program, students gain practical skills in understanding, developing, designing, constructing, and managing HVAC systems and related equipment and components. The program meets the educational requirements for design and management qualifications in the field.
In the common studies with Electrical Building Services Engineering, students learn to create comprehensive building services solutions that are energy-efficient, safe, healthy, and functional. A holistic view of construction is gained through joint tasks with architectural and civil engineering schools.
The total scope of studies is 240 credits, divided into four years. The degree includes 15 credits of optional professional studies, where students can complement their skills by completing professional studies from other degrees. In addition, the degree includes 15 credits of freely chosen study modules, where students can freely select high-level study modules based on their interests and skill needs. These optional and freely chosen study modules can be completed at any stage during the studies.
The curriculum's study modules are scheduled so that, except for the thesis, all building services engineering studies are completed after 3.5 years. This allows students who progress more quickly to graduate early and provides flexibility in the final spring semester to choose optional and freely chosen study modules that best complement their study path.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
Graduates from the program work as building services engineers, in supervisory or specialist roles in contracting, in equipment manufacturing and sales, in monitoring and regulatory positions, and as property managers. In the field, one can either specialize in a particular area or develop into a broad-spectrum expert. A specialist in building services engineering can find employment in either small or large companies or become an entrepreneur.
Access to Further Studies
The degree gives eligibility for master’s degrees
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Performance assessment is based on TAMK's general assessment criteria. The assessment criteria for study modules are described in the curriculum of the degree program. Detailed criteria, assessment methods, and performance formats are outlined in the implementation plan of each study module.
Graduation Requirements
Completing the studies and achieving the learning outcomes within the scope defined by the curriculum. To graduate, students must apply for a degree certificate once the required number of credits for graduation has been completed.
Mode of Study
The degree program leading to a bachelor's degree (240 ECTS) is implemented as full-time studies.
Development of the Programme
The HVAC engineering education is part of the building and urban engineering responsibility within the scope of building services engineering education. The curriculum is based on the building services engineering program that began in 2009 and was developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders in the field.
The content and structure of the studies are updated annually to align with changes in regulations and industry requirements. The education takes into account the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Culture as well as TAMK's strategy.
