Description

Degree studies in Audiovisual Media provide you with versatile skills for content creation, AV expression, and production tasks in the audiovisual industry. You can specialise in either creative content production or audiovisual design and expression. In creative content production studies, scriptwriting and production management are combined. In audiovisual design and expression specialisation, you delve into developing expertise in the processes of cinematography and editing. You can also delve into sound design, which is studied in English as part of the Media and Arts degree program, alongside music production students.

After graduation, you can find employment in film, television, and media productions, corporate and marketing communication roles, and event management, as well as pursue opportunities as a creative entrepreneur or freelancer.

In the practical-oriented studies at TAMK's Mediapolis campus, you collaborate with other students and professionals. The education provides you with opportunities to network with industry professionals and establish contacts for your future career.

YEARLY THEMES OF STUDIES

First Year: At the beginning of your studies, you will learn the fundamentals of sound, digital imaging, and video production alongside international media students. The program's own studies in the first autumn include audiovisual storytelling, dramaturgy, and media history. In the spring of the first year, students collaborate to produce short fiction films, which also involve project management and studies in individual specialisation. Language studies also begin in the spring.

Second Year: In the second year of studies, students delve into television production from both content creation and production technology perspectives. Television studies include exercises and projects related to journalism and multicamera work. In the second year, students also study their professional specialisation studies as well as entrepreneurship and work-life skills.

Third and fourth year: In the third year, students deepen and actively build their expertise through elective projects and professional studies. The studies also delve into workplace regulations and work management in the audiovisual field, as well as develop skills for client work. Students can choose courses from other degree programs as well. Practical training and possibly international exchange are scheduled for the third and fourth years. The development of professional expertise is guided towards the future of the industry, including technological change. The culmination of the studies is the thesis, demonstrating accumulated professional and developmental competence.

The primary learning method of the program is project-based learning in teams.

Study Structure

Objectives

The degree program provides you with comprehensive competence to work in various roles within the audiovisual industry, encompassing content creation, artistic, and production tasks. Depending on your specialisation, you will have professional expertise in areas such as production, scriptwriting, or audiovisual execution (filming and lighting, editing, sound design). You are a responsible and team-oriented professional with strong abilities in project management, client work, and entrepreneurship. You can adapt to changes in your field and continuously develop your professional skills.

The aim is also to equip you with the skills to work in an international work environment. During your studies, you will collaborate with the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Media and Arts, which, like the Audiovisual Media Degree Program, operates at the Mediapolis campus. If desired, you can undertake an internship abroad or participate in an exchange program with many of our partner universities.
