Objectives (course unit)
SCIL-projects´ general learning objectives
• the student is able to recognize and describe the problem, and is able to define objectives for a project, including the value added, in collaboration with other team members
• the student is able to plan a project as a team member, and capable of utilizing agile project working methods as member of a multicultural and multidisciplinary project team
• the student is able to utilize user and customer centered methods to design and create the desired outcome
• the student is able to apply, utilize and acquire new knowledge and methods from their study field to achieve the desired project outcomes
• the student is capable of taking responsibility of the improvement and development of their operational environment, and is able to recognize and articulate the relevance of their competence and work in context
• the student is able to communicate about the project status and outcomes to the customer and stakeholders in a clear and precise manner
Definition of the individual learning objectives for project participants:
• In a learning agreement the student defines and writes down their project specific learning objectives, which are then evaluated and approved is discussion with the project facilitator
• the learning agreement explicitly defines individual learning objectives that are relevant to their field of study and their role in the project, and are aligned with their personal curriculum

Smart Campus Innovation Lab (SCIL) is a Tampere Universities community -wide learning and innovation platform, a living lab. In SCIL students and staff from various fields, nationalities and cultures collaboratively carry out development projects that benefit the Tampere higher education community on a wide scale.

Teaching methods
SCIL Summer 2019 is a 5-week intensive practical learning experience. Format is a development project done for a real customer meeting a real world need. Students form the project team and are the experts who bring their own knowledge, experience and energy together to innovate and create solutions and to deliver valuable end product for the customer.
SCIL projects are open to students from all fields of study and all level of experience and expertise. The projects are student-driven, meaning the student teams plan and carry out their projects utilizing user--oriented design and project working methods.The student teams are supported by mentors and SCIL project coaches. The customers for the projects are also members of the Tampere Universities community.

Student workload
Participation to the project teams requires the student to be present in person during normal working hours on weekdays. Effectively project teams work full-time.
Assessment criteria - pass/fail (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
Four dimensions of the evaluation:
- Student: Reflecting and evaluating one's own learning (the actual working hours are connected with the final credit units)
- Team: Reflecting and evaluating the support given to each team member
- Coach: Reflecting and evaluating the development of one's project work and general work life skills
- Client: Gives an overall evaluation of the quality of the work
Final evaluation is based on the reflection given by the client. Student's own evaluation, team evaluation and evaluation given by the coach can influence the final evaluation and the amount of earned credit units.
Course is failed if active participation in the team learning process and the criteria mentioned above will not be fullfilled.
