Objectives

The student:
-is able to plan and realize forest stand management activities, such as young stand management and thinnings and knows the basics of forest fertilization
-knows how to evaluate these activities
-knows how to measure trees and to estimate stand volumes
-knows how to estimate the area of a forest stand on the map and in the field
-knows statistical mean values and can define forest stand mean values
-is able to estimate the amount of removal of a thinning
- knows the regulations and recommendations concerning forest stand management and knows how to take them into account when managing the forest

Content

Planning and implementing of young stand management. Evaluation of young stand management. The use of a clearing-saw and other equipment. Financial subsidy system of young stand management. Different alternatives of stand management and their implementation. Use of thinning models. Management of nutrients and forest fertilization. Main regulations concerning forest stand management. Recommendations for silviculture and nature management. Measuring of standing trees and stand evaluation. Mathematics of forest measurements.
