Introduction to MathematicsLaajuus (5 cr)

Code: TK00GJ28

Credits

5 op

Objectives

The student will successfully perform basic arithmetic operations with real numbers, with a particular focus on percentage calculations. The student will solve both word problems and numerical mathematical problems and equations. The student will be familiar with the basics of statistical mathematics and will be able to define the most common statistical parameters.

Content

In this course, fundamental mathematical concepts will be reviewed and deepened, with a focus on percentage calculations, equations, and statistical mathematics. During the course, students will become acquainted with the efficient use of Excel for mathematical purposes.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can handle practical (everyday) percentage calculations. The student can understand the use of parentheses and calculation order in mathematical expressions. The student can solve simple (1st degree and linear) equations. The student is familiar with common statistical parameters.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

In addition to the previous level, the student can identify different types of percentage calculations and apply this knowledge to solve basic problems. The student generally processes expressions correctly. The student can form an equation from a relatively simple word problem and solve it. The student can calculate typical statistical parameters.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the previous levels, the student can create expressions for more challenging percentage calculations. Handling expressions and equations is smooth and nearly error-free. The student demonstrates a strong understanding and independent thinking, even in more complex applied tasks.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Fail
The student has not participated in the course lessons or group work and has not submitted assignments on time.
