Objectives (course unit)
The aim of the course is to provide students with the ability to design and dimension a safe and cost-effective photovoltaic (PV) system for residential buildings.
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
• understand the main regulations and guidelines related to photovoltaic systems
• identify the different components of a PV system and explain their operating and sizing principles
• evaluate the profitability of a PV system based on actual electricity consumption
• theoretically carry out commissioning inspections of a PV system and understand the documentation requirements
• recognize the key factors related to the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of a PV system

• Laws, standards, regulations and guidelines
• Operating principle of solar panels
• Structure, operation and key concepts
• Economic considerations and system sizing
• Mounting surfaces, fastening systems and other mechanics
• DC-side installations
• AC-side installations and other equipment
• System repair and expansion
• Certified installer and occupational safety
• Commissioning and inspections
• Operation, maintenance and upkeep
Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)
Requirements for a Passing Grade:
• The student identifies and articulates in their own words the different phases of designing and implementing a solar power system.
• Additionally, the student is able to dimension the optimal scale of a solar power system from a technical and economic perspective, and justify their choices.
• The student knows the various components of a solar power system and understands their operating principles.

Tentin suoritusaika on 1.10-31.10.
Uusintatentit kurssin vastuuopettajan ohjeistusten mukaisesti marraskuussa.
Assessment methods and criteria
Tentti sisältää 4 esseekysymystä ja 8 monivalintakysymystä. Hyväksytyn suorituksen läpäisyraja on 70 % kokonaispisteistä.

Teaching methods
Opintojakso suoritetaan itse opiskelemalla ja Exam-tentillä osaamisen todentamalla. Opintojakson oppikirjana toimii "ST-käsikirja 40: Aurinkosähköjärjestelmien suunnittelu ja toteutus".
Tentti suoritetaan EXAM-tilassa. Tentti sisältää 4 esseekysymystä ja 8 monivalintakysymystä. Hyväksytyn suorituksen läpäisyraja on 70 % kokonaispisteistä.
