Objectives (course unit)

- The student understands and knows how to apply the philosophy, terminology, and process of service design (service design, design thinking, business development).
- The student knows how to use service design tools to develop their own work/organization (service path, customer profile, prototyping, testing, customer understanding, productization).
- The student knows how to define a problem, and they know how to build a process that utilizes service design and involves the organization.
- The student knows the basics of facilitation, ideation, and data analysis.

How to involve the end users of different services and/or representatives of different departments of an organization in the development process?
In what ways is customer understanding gathered?
How can the obtained information be analyzed and utilized?

The student knows the principles of service design.

The student knows how to design the service to be sold using the principles of service design.

The student knows how to design the service to be sold using the principles of service design.

Location and time

Team divisions 17.3.
Pajas according to the distributed schedule from 18.3. to 16.5. and later, if you agree with the team and the coach.
Other programme according to the needs of the team.

Exam schedules

Deadlines are mentioned on Teams. The retakes/raises will be agreed on a case-by-case basis. All 1st year studies must be completed by 31.7.2025 in order to continue in August 2025.

Assessment methods and criteria

1. Portfolio (personal): reflective text, motorola, lesson book, 5 books and timesheet
2. team business documents: set-up documents, rules, team learning contract, sales day project plan and report, team business competition input and service design assignments
3. evaluation of coaches, see separate criteria in TG-Teams.

The grade for the Service Design course requires that the above delivarables are accepted. The grade will be based on the grade for the Service Design small group assignment, and the individual level adjustment of the coaches.

Teaching methods

At Proakatemia, we learn by working together. It involves reading and learning from a wide range of material, combining knowledge with your own thinking and experience, and sharing it in written or oral form in a variety of interactions.
Learning methods include dialogue, presentations, lectures, exercises, assignments, project work, reflection, independent, team and/or guided.

1 credit = 27 hours of student's learning work.

Completion alternatives

Passing the course requires learning with the team. Exceptions for timing etc. must be discussed in advance with the coaches and/or the team.

Practical training and working life cooperation

This course includes a customer project.

International connections

The English and Finnish co-degree programmes' course implementations are partly integrated.
