Objectives (course unit)

The student is familiar with the characteristics of text genres required in higher education studies and can write a clear and structured text. The student understands the requirements of academic style writing and can analyze, integrate, and summarize information from various sources. The student has a broad vocabulary related to their target field and is aware of the admission process for degree studies in the chosen field. The student can describe his/her own skills and competencies. The language proficiency level in language studies is B1.2-B2.

Content (course unit)

The student develops their written expression, argumentation skills, and the necessary vocabulary for higher education studies. In this study module, we practice writing text genres required in higher education studies, as well as information retrieval and source criticism. We also delve into more advanced structures of the Finnish language. The student becomes familiar with the selection process in their chosen field.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student understands the principles of summarizing and argumentation. The student has expanded the vocabulary related to the field of interest and can communicate in Finnish within their own domain. The student requires significant support in writing articles and citing sources. The student recognizes complex Finnish language structures. The student understands what he/she needs to do to improve. The student has participated in the course and completed the course assignments.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student can summarize and argue in Finnish within their own field. The student can write articles with relative independence and use source citations. The student can use complex Finnish language structures with support. The student can organize the proficiency in the Finnish language and use the language actively and proactively. The student has actively participated in the group and performed well in completing course assignments.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student can analyze, summarize, and argue in Finnish within their own field, using an extensive vocabulary. The student can write articles and use source citations independently. The student actively and diversely uses complex Finnish language structures and an extensive vocabulary. The student can analyze and utilize complex Finnish language structures. The student is highly motivated and committed. The student takes responsibility for one’s own and their group's performance.

Fail
The student has not participated in the course lessons or group work and has not submitted assignments on time.
