Objectives (course unit)
The objective of the course is to learn documentation in accordance with healthcare regulations in various healthcare settings.
After completing the course, the student
• understands the client-centered, ethical, and legislative foundations of documentation in Finland
• can create a structured care plan in accordance with the nursing process, document the implementation of nursing care, and compile a summary of nursing care
• can evaluate the compiled patient information at various stages of the care process
• understands the basics of digital information and information management
• understands commonly used Finnish classifications and phrases related to structured documentation
• can make nursing documentation in Finnish according to their own language proficiency level, using simple phrases and sentences
Content (course unit)
• client-centricity, ethics, Finnish legislation in documentation and Finland’s national guidelines
• different stages of the nursing process in structured documentation
• creating a structured nursing care plan, documenting the implementation of nursing care, and summarizing nursing care
• systematic evaluation of documentation at different stages
• the information produced by the citizen in the national data archive in Finland
• structured documentation using Finnish classifications and phrases
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student

• knows how the compiled patient information is evaluated at various stages of the care process
• understands the basics of digital information and information management
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student
• knows the client-centered, ethical and legislative foundations of documentation
• can create a process-based structured care plan, document the implementation of nursing care, and compile a summary of nursing care
• can evaluate the compiled patient information at various stages of the care process
• knows the basics of digital information and information management
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student
• can apply client-centered, ethical, and legislative foundations in documentation
• can create a process-based and client-centered structured care plan, document the implementation of nursing care, and compile a summary of nursing care based on evidence
• can comprehensively evaluate the extensively compiled patient information at various stages of the care process
• can apply digital information and information management
• can implement structured nursing documentation using the Finnish language
Location and time
Autumn term, weeks 34- 41 in 2025 at TAMK.
Mandatory orientation online Fri 22.8. according to 24TOKASA schedule. The orientation material can be found on Moodle and the instructions for the course can be found also on the course moodle.

Exam: week 40 (29.9.-4.10.25)

Exams will be arranged in the exam environment. There will be two possibilities to re-take the exam following the initial course exam.
Duration of the exam 55 min. 60% of the exam points must be obtained to pass the exam (grade 1). Return all written assignments before taking the exam(including the docca assignment and group work).
Nursing care plan submissions on docca are also a part of the assessed course work and need to be submitted according to the information provided in the orientation session. All allocated tasks must be submitted within the given timeframe for the course by latest on the 24.10. 2025 Group works or treatment plans returned after this will not be evaluated.
Approved treatment plan:
It is possible to return the treatment plan 3 times: if the third time is not approved (you get rejected), retake the theory on the topic of the nursing process, after which you will have the opportunity for the 4th submission.

Teaching methods
Lectures, small group work, independent work.
Changes may be possible before the start of the course.
Learning materials
Course material will be presented in the mandatory orientation. Relevant materials will be distributed by the teachers.
Student workload
54 hours of which 12 hours theory and 12 hours of mandatory practice in workshops and integrated Finnish classes.
Content scheduling
The course is structured as follows: theory, tasks, small group work. All components must be completed successfully in order to pass the course.

Further information
The implementation plan will be updated by the beginning of the study period, changes are possible.
Participation is mandatory at the orientation class, legislation class and all workshop sessions. Participation in the Orientation 22 August ensures admission to the course. Participation in the orientation is required, even if you have already completed a part of the course.
