Objectives (course unit)

Student is able to choose and dimension the central machine elements and transmissions of mechanical engineering and power transmission as axis couplings, brakes, chain and timing belt drives. Student understands the joint alternatives of machine elements in mechanical engineering and power transmission and can dimension the central joints such as rivet joints, axis-hub joints (an adhesive joint and profile axes) and joints of the axes (the couplings and universal joints). Student knows the standard-based dimensioning, and can with machine elements form bigger units and components such as motor-coupling-gear units. Students knows e.g. the basics of balancing of rotating parts and alignment of shafts and is able proceed them.

Content (course unit)

Choice and dimensioning of the demanding machine elements, transmissions and joints of the power transmission. Standard-based dimensioning. Axis clutches and brakes. Chain and timing belt drives. Rivet joints and axis-hub joints (an adhesive joint and profile axes) and joints of axes (the couplings and universal joints). Laboratorio (hans on) exersices.

Prerequisites (course unit)

Basic know-how of
- machine design,
- dynamics and statics of rigid bodies,
- strenght of materials

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student recognizes the key machine parts, joints and transmissions of machine building and power transfer, such as shaft couplings, rivet joints, chain and belt drives, and is able to dimension them as simple targets. The student is aware of the importance of standards in dimensioning and is able to control larger entities such as motor-to-switch gear, components chosen by him.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

Students are familiar with key machine parts, joints and transmissions of machine building and power transfer, such as shaft couplings, rivet joints, chain and belt transfers, and are able to independently dimension them to conventional targets. The student takes into account the correct standards in the selection measurement and is able to form larger units such as the motor-to-switch gear, the components of his choice. Students are able to apply the practical problems they have learned and take responsibility for their own performance.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student knows and understands widely the main machine parts, joints and transmissions of machine building and power transfer, such as shaft couplings, rivet joints, chain and belt transfers and can suitably dimension them to demanding applications. The student is rightly aware of the right standards and the different solution options in the selection measurement and can independently form larger entities such as the engine-switch-gear, the components of his choice. The student is able to find different ways of working and solutions, to justify his / her choices and to try new ways of operating. Understand the economic and welfare benefits of their operations and also know how to anticipate them.
