Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is aware of his/her own values and principles and is able to describe them in relation to the values and ethical principles of future profession in health care
- knows the basic ethical values in social and health care
- follows the ethical guidelines and principles in nursing, acts responsibly as a member of the work community and follows practice guidelines
- respects clients/patients and meets them as experts and actors of their lives

Teaching methods

Active and mandatory participation in every contact/training session. Reflection diary, group work, professional interaction with peers, independent study.

Student workload

Includes:
Orientation to clinical training, independent study, reflection/learning diary, group discussion and interaction, group essay, Finnish language training, reflection tasks/sessions

Practical training and working life cooperation

Active participation in contact/training sessions at TAMK is mandatory. In case of absenteeism compensatory action is required.

After every contact/training session, students are required to:
1. Write an individual learning diary of the session's topic and find out the key vocabulary related to the topic in Finnish
2. Discuss their diary and reflect their learning in small group
3. Write a summary of their learning based on the diary and group discussion (1-2) pages per topic
4. Compile a condensed presentation of the summary in Finnish (few phares, max. one paragraph

Once all the contact/training sessions are completed, students will submit their topic and Finnish language summaries in one document using the TAMK report guidelines. Use the topics as your main headings.

After the assignment submission, a final reflection and feedback session on the summaries, learning, and Finnish language will be held with S2-teacher.

Further information

The intention is to practice professional interaction and collaboration, and learn about Finnish health care system, Nurses responsibilities, duties, and ethics. In addition, you will increase your working life skills and knowledge of Finnish working culture- You will develop competence that is required l in the nursing profession and throughout your future SCTs.
